just recently purchased a EMERSON 10 horizontal
metal bandsaw, and can not find any information on
the blade size. i know it uses a 1 inch wide blade
and should probably be around 8 teeth per inch, but
i am not sure on minimum and maximum length. any
help appreciated.

Don"t know anything about the folks at the link, but they have a pretty good blade selection chart on their site. Looks like there are several Emerson 10 saws with a 5' long blade.

As far as teeth per inch, it depends on the thickness of material you are cutting. Rule of thumb is you want at least 2 teeth in the material at any one time. In other words if the material was 1/4 inch thick you would want at a minimum a blade with 12 TPI. If your cutting anything thinner then you need to add to the TPI count. If you do a lot of thick material then you can go to a lower tooth count, but then you need to keep one blade for the thinner stuff and one for the really thick stuff.

I think the one I"ve got on my saw for general cutting is a vary-tooth with a 12/14 TPI count, and then I"ve got one with an 8TPI count for the thicker stuff.

Hope this helps.

First, run the blade tension adjuster down to nearly bottom, then
run a string around the wheels, and then measure how long the
string is in inches. Then go to enco, mcmaster-carr, msc, etc. Easy
to find, usually.
