High drive finals on dozers

Anyone here see any advantage or disadvantage to the high drives that seem to be more popular now.
I just see them around and wonder if they are better for certain places then a regular track set up.

The high drive gets the final drive bull gears higher away from rocks and other things which could damage their housings. You get the advantage of more ground clearance as well at the
center rear of the crawler. With an idler at front
and rear of the track frame there is reduced side
load and wear on the drive sprockets.
The only disadvantage might be longer track
sections and more links to replace at rebuild.

You get a bit higher center of gravity... but the cab is also a bit higher for better visibility. The final drive is up clear of impact so you just have another set of idlers to take that punishment. Probably one of the main advantages is that you get a planetary reduction system rather than a bull wheel... and from a service standpoint those dozers are made to come apart for major service. If the transmission requires service you pull the sun shafts from each planetary and pull the drive shaft and yolk from the front, undo the bolt ring on the back and pull the transmission out the back on a tray. I was one told that the transmission could be removed from our 4H in a couple hours or less depending...
