JD 450 HLR transmission pump

Mossback

I was using the backhoe on my 450 straight for a while and ran transmission low on oil. It has oil leak at transmission pump. I went to move machine and noticed it did not want to move much so I shut it off and refilled trans. I pulled pipe plug at pressure port to check pressure and have very little flow and no pressure. Acts like pump has lost its prime. Tractor does not want to move forward or reverse now.Any thoughts or suggestion on what to do?

If the trans doesn't want to work when full of oil, sounds like something might have happened to either an adjustment or of course the front pump.. I'd do the pressure tests that are available in "archives" under hlr adjustment.. There is no bleeding of the transmission .. there's enough leakage in that setup that any air will escape somewhere.. Check for a broken roll pin on the upright hlr adjustment.. If the stud turns when trying to tighten the adjuster nut, the bottom roll pin is broken.. Hold stud with small vise grips and turn nut with a torch bent box wrench.. Or the roll pin inside the trans case may have broke,.. In that case the top cover has to come off to drive a new pin into the shaft/knuckle of the clutch valve..If the leak seems to come from within, I'd check on the right , top of the clutch housing under the rubber plug to look to see if the pressure control valve washer is leaking..

I started checking adjustments today since tractor is new to me. Clutch adjustment was way off. No free play at all. Clutch must of been not engaging all the way and thats why trans pump was not working. After I did adjustment and started engine I could here trans pump running right away. Tractor moves again.
I am still going to pull engine to fix trans pump leak and will check out clutch and replace if needed
