Looking at a 450 B crawler with a Deere backhoe attachment. Would this be a good machine? anything problem areas to look for on the 450 B? Is the backhoe on a crawler a good thing or am i better off buying a rubber tire backhoe?

I've had both! usually the crawler is not good to grade with if the hoe is hanging on the back(to heavy). If you buy a wheel backhoe you'll find how much faster it is to move around. I had a crawler that I could use the backhoe on or put it on my wheel tractor. I doubt you can get that setup today. just my two cents ......Jim in N.M.

The backhoe should be quick attach. Just make sure you never try to run the engine with the hoses disconnected. We can't tell you if it's a good machine without some more information. It was a good machine when it was new. We also can't tell you if it's a good machine for you because we don't know your application. Like any crawler, undercarriage is your biggest concern, then transmission and steering. Bad engine is probably the least thing to worry about. What do you want a backhoe for?
