Why did John Deere quit making the 110 backhoe?

I was curious if anyone knows why John Deere quit making the 110backhoe. These are 45-50HP and weigh around 7200 lbs. They are just the right size for pulling behind a 3/4 or 1 ton truck and have just enough guts to get larger jobs done. The next step up is a 310 and they are much heavier. I think the 110 fits that niche market of landscapers and small hobby farmers, rental places etc. I dont understand why they quit making this model?

The 110's were known to have the center section break. I've replaced two. It is a big and expensive job. Deere wants 5 grand for the center casting. Found a used one for $2500 the first time. The second one we welded. I know of several others that did the same thing. Before you buy one, lift up the rubber mat and check for cracks.

Kubota makes several to choose from.

Yanmar made them for Deere IIRC. Something happened that Yanmar started making tractors for Cubcadet so maybe that is part of it ?

You could ask the same question why Deere stopped making small crawlers like the 350. Supply and demand I assume. Kubota seems to have the market for small Japanese powered backhoes.

I Don,t know for sure why jd quit but as a KUBOTA dealer we never had any trouble selling against them. The comparable Kubota was about 4 thousand cheaper and for most folks seemed to out perform the jd. I would expect the real reason was as someone pointed out the association of JD and Yanmar is now history. The Kubota L39 and L 45 are both very good sellers.

We probably sold 8 through our dealership. They worked great and the customers loved them. Then the market dried up, and they quit selling. We never had any that broke the case, although I know other dealers did. Kubota was a very strong competitor in the market for these. Deere's "official" reason was lack of demand.

Yup. I've said for a long time that if they had a modern version of the 40C and 350 they'd sell well.

The Deere 110 was a hit around northeastern Ohio with the utility companies.. It was a real looking backhoe, just downsized.. Whereas the FNH 1910 and 1920 with Bradco loader and hoe once had the market share around here.. Lately , I've seen Kubota being pretty prevalent around here now.. I wasn't aware of the pitfalls of the 110.. Could be a deal breaker..

I'm a Deere man, always have been. I have a Kubota L39 TLB sitting in my shed, ran across a good deal on it & I must say you can't beat the ease of removing the backhoe & adding the three point hitch. Roomy platform too, they came up with winner, I wish they had put taller tires on the rear. That orange really sticks out between all my green & yellow in the shed.
