1940s D2 cat diesel in oil...

Hi all, neighbour has a 1940s vintage D2 cat, he's been using it to skid trees out of the bush and push some snow, anyways the last few weeks it has been dumping diesel into the engine oil... he first noticed the problem after he had to bleed the diesel engine to get it to fire, and now after an hour or so of running the oil pressure starts to drop, so he's quit using it and it's now in his shop...

So, diesel would likely come from either the lift pump or the injection pump... how does the diesel get from the lift pump to the injection pump? Is it a gallery machined into the housing or a steel line? And is either the injection pump or the lift pump known for giving problems?

His other question is , if we need to remove the injection pump, does the clutch for the pup motor need to come off first to give it clearance or not?

Any other ideas or comments?

the diesel fuel runs in an internal gallery from the transfer pump to the filter housing, then on to the injection pump. There are numerous o-rings at the interfaces of these, There should be 3 drain lines to bleed off fuel that leaks from these items
make sure that they are not blocked
