Crawler value

I paid 2k for a running working 420 with reverser... it had good tin but rough paint, and weak under carriage. I would think that 3k is a good price if in good shape...

A 440 went for almost $2300 here a few months back at an auction and it was really, really rough. I wouldn't have given $800 for it, but then the price is always too high for everyone except the fellow who buys it. If it isn't all beat up and everything works okay, I would think a 420-430 should be worth $3,000. One thing about those 420-430 motors is that they don't cost a lot of money to overhaul. If the timing is on and the points/condenser/coil is in good shape they are good starters in cold weather, even with the 6 volt system.

It all depends on the track condition, final drive condition, etc. If the tracks are 50% or less, then no, it's over priced since new tracks, if you can even get them, will run you another $1500-2500.00. If the tracks are 60% or better and the rolls, finals, reverser if it's got one, etc. are good then yeah, it's worth $3k. If it's pristine it might be worth $5K to the right guy.

An average 40/420/430 crawler is a $2-2500.00 rig around here.

Paid $1000 for a '57 420C 5 roller last fall. Needs steering clutch work. Has a Henry loader.
