Is it worth a look?

I came across a D4D. Not sure of the year. But ,the price is about as cheap as I've seen on a working dozer. Assuming it all works except for the two items noted.
#1 Starter Needs Rebuilt.
#2 Steering clutch needs work.

Plus it has a winch.

Is this too much work for an older dozer? or, would it even be worth trying to fix. I'm not sure of the cost to repair it since I can't do it myself. I might put 10 or so hours a month on it. Your thoughts!!!

Thank you,
James

Well I just always put the STARTER IS BAD dozers down to scrap price. Think about it could be all kind of problems without hearing the motor run I would run from it. Steering clutch repair if you hire it out will also be expensive. Find something you can go drive and try or you are setting yourself up for big expenses.

ya theres no telling what could be wrong with it with it not starting thats very scary for me hard to buy anything that you cant drive hear run like said must assume it scrap value i know if i was selling something i would definitely fix the starter and get way more money out of a running machine

Thanks for the replies. It came up and was cheap for around here anyway. So, I thought I'd ask. The other one I looked at the U/C seemed all right. But, the blade attach points were pretty worn out and one of the push arms? was cracked and welded. Not very good as it was cracking again and it was 2.5K more than this one. But, I don't know what the U/C was like on this one. Thanks, I pass on it.

I would be cautious but i have seen alot of machines not steering just need an adjustment. The thing I would want to know is if is wet or dry clutch housing on steering, changes the value.
