My buddy has a 931 cat crawler loader in decent shape with a real good starting 4cyl diesel . Is any one using them, and if so, are they worth anything besides scrap price since the invention of the skidsteers ? It's in northern ont. at the Mich. border.

Thanks

That's like asking if a D6 is worth anything. You have to give a little more information or pictures or something! Typically Cat has very reliable transmissions. The 3204 isn't the best Cat engine but being it's a non turbo it will last a long time although known to have blow by with only 2 ring pistons. 931 went through B and C models. Later B models got an improved direct injection engine and added another track link as well as slightly higher lift height. Generally a 931 is a good machine and parts aren't a problem. Biggest concern is the undercarriage. New is readily available but not cheap if it needs a complete undercarriage. 931's are generally a good machine. Bob/Ont could give you the low down on what to check out.

Here in BC you're not likely to see a fully functioning 931 under $5000 and a really good one can still be more than $15000. Stick welding's info is very much worthwhile in helping you make a decision.
