D 6 cable dozer

Was wondering if anyone could tell me about what a D 6 cable
dozer is worth? It has been sitting for 3 years, it is pony start, the
undercarriage seems to be pretty good for its age. Thanks

Its hard to be fair or accurate per say, without seeing it, some photos would help, or verifying the actual condition. Any idea what series, can you find any of the serial number tags which would be rear of engine, left side, and left side on the back of the tractor, above the final drive compartment filler plug, up a little, usually easy to spot, and if no tags, should be stamped into the steel, where they would be. You could start with scrap prices, that tractor could be around 10 ton, depending on whats on it, dozer kit, belly pans, etc. A bare D7 from the 40's is 12 ton, but could be well over 15 ton, depending on whats installed. D6 would be proportionally less.

If in decent shape, runs fine, no real problems, value could be above scrap, depends on what a buyer will pay, but 5K is a round number above scrap, older tractors, like say a 5R or 2H series, while in nice shape, may not bring as much as say a 9U, older ones came in 2 gauges, 60" and 74" narrow and wide respectively, center of track to center of track. Early D6's had a 3 cylinder diesel, 2H series, prior to the 6 cylinder upgrade, the early ones may have a little collector interest, which may add some value. Military used 4R and 5R series, narrow and wide gauge is the difference in series.

Generally a very useful tractor, smaller easier to haul and less cumbersome in the wood, open station tractors, I would not recommend using in the woods for obvious reasons.

8U and 9U series, large production, well regarded tractors, into the 50's newer than that, series may be been D6 B,C D's. Cable operated may not be so common in later years, most were hydraulic, cable was still an option, some preferred it still.
