Have good old 7U traxicavator runs well even pony motor runs well. It needs relined bands on brakes. I am basically done using this unit but think it would sell much better with proper brakes. Question is manuel shows removing bands through rear with unbolting 2 piece band as it comes out. Other way in remove transmission top. Anybody done this job either way, and how did the job go? I have been amazed how the old fellow can do so much work. Someone has fabracited a dozer type blade with ripper teeth. sure works good.

Yes I replaced the bands in mine, however my machine had a two piece cover. One cover over the transmission and another over the rear end. If your machine has a single cover over both I would go the plate on the rear of the transmission route.

I just did my HT4 which id a D4-7U traxavator and I had to take the fenders and top of the tranny off because of the counterweight. It"s not a bad job but cat only sells the liners and you have to drill and rivet them on. Also the rivets the liners come with are steel with zinc plating I bought brass brake rivets from McMaster Carr. My bands were 3 pieces and the 1/4 carriage bolts that connect them together have to be 5/8 long in order to fit around. I used 3/4 and had to grind them down because 5/8 are not readily available.

Good luck,
