rebuilding an upper pinion shaft on an HD 10 dozer

The splines are stripped on this pinion shaft but the rest of the shaft is in good shape. Where could I have these splines rebuilt? I talked to a rebuilder and he said he would have to make a new shaft at a cost of $600 to $900.What should I do? Roy

I the past I have welded the splines, turned the shaft, and cut a keyway in it. of course you'd need to weld up and key the female part as well. not sure if this would work in your case, but it worked for me on a final drive on a large cat once.

Thanks for your input. I have sent thr shaft to Accurate Gear and machine. They said they couldn't weld the splnes and machine them down,they are going to make a new shaft with splines. Roy
