hello all,and thank you to anyone who would respond. I have a melroe 610 bobcat.would like to drain the hydraulic fluid from both gear/chain cases, change filer and put in new fluid.what is the prodedure?do you have to drain from both case sides?fill from just one?how do you know you have the proper fluid level in both gear boxes?I know there is a high low fluid level port on one case side(to the left side facing forward) what about the right side? thank you

Just the left side for draining and filling. Holds 18 gallons. I use ATF as per the recommendation of my local dealer. You don't need to drain the oil to change the filter. The service manual recommends tilting the machine, which will do the trick. I assume the levels equalize quickly when pump runs.

thank you Charlie for your response.I see you use ATF.There is hydraulic fluid in my chain cases.ATF may be cheaper than hydraulic fluid, but after draining the chain cases( have never been drained since I owned Bobcat 610,20 years,) how would you get it all out to put in ATF? is it compatible with hydraulic fluid, safe to mix? thank you for a response.

I don't know. I would not assume compatibility, and I suspect that the best approach would be to stick with the type of oil you have been using. Makes it a lot simpler.

I think ATF is basically really high grade hyd. oil. It's used a lot for hyd. fluid in cold climates because it keeps the same viscosity over a wide temp. range and isn't as thick. I think it's 10 weight but maybe someone else knows for sure? It shouldn't be a problem if it mixes with a small amount of leftover fluid. They should both be petroleum based.
