Hi guys , working on an Allis fork lift with a Citron engine ( French import ) got good spark, gas , brand new plugs , compression seems okay , timing is dead on , she won't fire even with a sniff of either . It just stopped running one day and never did start again .

Any thoughts on this one -- thanks

I am not at all familiar with this engine. If the distributor is not driven off the cam and it has an overhead cam driven by a cog belt then the cam could have slipped a couple of cogs and put the cam out of time but not the distributor.

That would be Ducellier, its a common French auto electrical make, this engine how many cylinders has it,is it air cooled or liquid, does it have a fuel feed pump,it is overhead cam, does it have a cam belt,if its got a fuel feed pump there is a chance that the pump could be leaking gas into the oil, when we don't know what engine its got its not easy to go from the color, best do do is get a mechanic to look at it for you.

It's a 3 wheeled blue unit, not sure model# the dist. says DUCELLIO (or something like that) , hard to read . points are 2 piece and special order. The plugs were soaked with gas, and the pan was half full of oil/gas from my buddy trying to start it (I think) . So I put in new plugs, new oil and went from there .Probably should do a compression test and remove valve cover , but I'm just trying to do a quick fix but I guess that it's a waist of time .

What model of a truck is it so we can look up what engine it's got Citroen made all sorts of engines both air and liquid cooled, single and multi cylinder, bad vacuum at the carb suggests that it could be drawing air somewhere on the intake,it could also be a valve issue,is the plugs getting wet?.

I put raw gas in 1 cyl and it didn't try to fire. Doesn't feel like there is much vacuum when I put my hand over carb. The dist. is turning so the gear can't be broke off the cam . Not sure the model of Citron engine but it's overhead valve. I will remove vale cover and go from there .

Thanks for the help guys

What model Citroen engine is it,you say the timing is ok and that it's got a spark, what about gas,did you clean the carb, see that all the intake manifold is tight and the gaskets are good,if the manifold is drawing air it will not draw the gas,if thats ok remove the spark plugs, put a couple of cc's of gas in each cylinder and put the plugs back in pronto and try and start it,no ether,if it catches you will know its a gas/carb issue,a lot of Citroen engines have cambelts, they can strip the teeth but you would have checked that,do like Mike said above see the valves are working.

Did you check that the valves are opening & closing? Had an allis just die once, and kinda same as you. End of cam broke off at gear. Still had compression as all valves were closed.
