Thank You for the response Stick Welding. I dont know much about the condition of the under carriage. I think it has some life yet. I do know it needs steering bands. It has little steering to note. Sticks have know effect when up against my belly. The owner is a light weight, easy for him. How involved is the fix. Is it done through the access plate on the rear axle housing. I plan I buying the manuals for the machine before I attempt anything. But for now I like the loader, needs some bucket welding etc, Any advice is welcome. Thanks Jim C

There's a few people on here that know a lot more about them than I do. I think the Case machines are one of the easier/cheaper machines to work on though.

The Case 310G has a Clark transaxle in it. Basically the same Clark unit as used in Terratracs and Oliver HGs and OC3s. Pretty easy job to put in new steering brake bands. Just pull the back cover off the trans to get to them. If Case wants too much for new band linings - you can buy from Zimmerman's in PA (Oliver Cletrac guy).

What you do NOT want to do is use modern GL5 gear oil in there. The EP additives will plug up the brake bands.

I put all new rollers in my 310G last summer. Got them brand new for $75 each. Pretty good deal as compared to finding rollers for other crawlers.

Also you will want to flush out the trans and rear end , probably the reason she does not want to steer is someone put the wrong grease in it . I owned a brand new 310 G dozer back in the early seventys and i did it and had to change out bands but i did not flush the thing out and got to do it again . I did not fully read the book that part that said Mineral OIL 90 weight .

When you get the cover off there is a little clevis you can remove the pin and make adjustments a little sometime goes a long way Yes get all the books
