Thank you all for the response. The owner of the 310 I am thinking of buying did say it was an easy machine to work on. With advice from you folks makes this process a little less stressful. More than likely he has the wrong oil in the case. And has stated he never replaced the bands during his 25 yr or so ownership. The machine was used very little the last two years an just sat. One more question on track adjustment. How can you tell how much adjustment is left ?

Just look to see if there is any travel left on the front rail where the front-idler-wheel-holders slide as you push them forward with the adjusters. 310s can have mechanical adjusters (that are often stripped or stuck) or hydraulic adjusters.

I have a 310G I have rebuilt just about everything. Nice machine I have a 148 gasser the transmission must have a g-1 gear oil an updated oil and brakes will not work there are several companies that will install new brake lining. I strongly suggest you buy ALL the books for this unit I believe they are available on this site. best money I have ever spent...well except for a diamond ring 34 years ago If you have ???lot of people on here to help
