took my old pump to KSD, they told me it seized & sheared shaft & cracked the case. I knew the case wasn't cracked so called Mountaineer Diesel, Charleston WV, where KSD had shipped it. Dale Burns told me it hadn't seized or sheared shaft but was so completely worn out inside that tolerances wouldn't support new parts & repairs would cost more that new pump. Bought new pump-$1400- and installed it myself with instructions from online & local mans advice. It is a easy job & dozer soon fired up. Oddest part was, gave it a shot of ether & it didn't start but black smoke rolled out the exhaust. Then it started on diesel & I got a shower... of mouse nest. Little devils must've drug in half the hillside & it all shot out the exhaust stack! Me, the dozer & surrounding bushes were festooned with mouse nest. Bushes looked like Spanish Moss was growing on them. No lie, 5 minutes of running & stuff was still being blown out! One mouse landed smack on the hood. Thought it was dead but minutes later it was up & moving. Killed it & found 3 more dead mice blown out in the field. The exhaust stack is 4' high & had a coffee can over it, with nothing nearby so they must've got in thru the turbo.
