I have a 1961 int 340 backhoe. can someone tell me how to take a cylinder apart to rebuild and are parts available. thanks
 
I don"t know IH but you can get parts if you measure sizes of rod,piston ect. I use Baum Hydraulics on the web or phone and they used to have tech support if you really get in trouble. Local hydraulic repair shops should be able to help with parts also in the same way.
 
The cylinder head should unscrew, but it may take a lot of force. I've used a 10 foot pipe for leverage on some. You may also want to make a spanner wrench to fit the holes on the cylinder head to grip it; less messy than a big pipe wrench. Pulling out the head/rod can also take some force after the head is unscrewed. The piston seals and rod seals are standard items, and you don't have to use use exactly the same as the originals. You don't need original parts. Any hydraulic shop will have, or look at online reference info first.
