Cat D6 9U value

I have a Cat D6 here that was my dads we used on the farm. It had quit running so we pulled the motor and found part of the piston skirt had broken off. Anyway I want to sell it but not sure on the value. It should have alot of good parts yet or overhaul motor and it would be good to go. I believe it is a 1956 model, has hyd. blade, hyd. clutch, electric start any help on value appreciated.

Many years ago I looked at 1 with a stuck main clutch, it ran, he wanted $6000.00 I think he still has it.

Start at scrap value as a base---should weigh 11 or 12 tons, scrap here is in the $225+ area per ton. Direct electric start would add value , also above average tracks. One locally was advertised for $2500. The oil clutch is a plus if you decide to fix it up.

If its mechanically sound, and has a decent undercarriage, its most likely worth repairing the motor, or in this case the broken piston, that seems to be and odd one, piston breaking like that, hopefully not from detonation of starting fluid !

Oil clutch, direct drive, direct electric start, made these very reliable tractors, well regarded, like the series of D6's to follow. In mechanically sound condition it should be worth more than scrap or parts, potentially 5K + or -

Thanks for the replys, Im sure its worth fixing back up but I know Im not going to do it. I'll probably put it in our area farm paper or two and see what happens, just didnt know what price to put on it. I may try $4000

Thats fair, something like that in running condition would be listed for 5k or similar around here. You would get more for it running, but you never know, if in fact you do need to do this repair, you have great resources here, and ACMOC and ACME antique caterpillar forums, these were well regarded and still very useful tractors, nothing like an oil clutch direct drive old caterpillar, direct electric start is a nice feature, that should help hold value, though I prefer a starting engine for the cold weather like we get in the winter, direct start is still a nice feature.
