Case 310 Track connecting tool

I've put plenty of tracks back on an never used a special tool. Are you talking about some sort of tool that grabs both ends of the track and pulls them together like the US military sells?

I just loosen the adjuster all the way, put the two links together by hand, and then hammer the master pin in.

If your putting together two links with a master pin you need to move the track so the two links are on the drive sprocket. With the links on the sprocket slowly move the machine in reverse enought to pull the slack out of the top side of the chain and put the joint at somewhere around the 10 o'clock position. With that slack out of the top side, put a jack under a pad on the lower part of the track and pick it up into the upper link. If done right there won't be any tension on either link so the pin should drive right in without any major problems.

thanks guys for the advice. I am an old tank crewman so figured I would need a tool of some sort. Now I see two ways you guys have recommended so I won't be afraid to pull it apart now. Thanks.

Boy you saved me.. I was not going to ask, I did not even understand the question. I thought I had been missing something all these years. Cross tie block layed down right at the joint of track pad 2/3 then back up till ever thing gets tight flop it over and if a tractor, or come along at the most pull it to 10 o clock like old said and drive that pin in. Tonight sitting here I can actually say sure do wish I had a 100 dollar bill for ever one I have drove in. We used to have a 20 pound sledge on the service truck. If you missed there went the handle but sure would move that pin. Latter years I leaned take it to a grinder and really clean it, leave it in the freezer over night and job was easy. Thos little washers was another thing. O he never asked where they go.
