Case 310 crawler track tension

The threaded rod or nuts, or both are stripped on my track adjustment. I bought the parts on ebay. What is the easies way to replace? I see I can take off the spring housing with 8 bolts that have been in there for 50 years. Anything that might be easier or tricks to keep in mind?

The originals were fine thread, the new ones are course. These come apart hard after 50 years I got mad at mine and simply cut and welded the new rods on after the plate. I know I know it's gin-rigging but works fine after many hours skidding in the woods.

I had my adjusters completely apart 17 years ago and they came apart hard with lots of heating and packed in dirt from many years of use. I had to re-thread the fine threaded bolt holes on the track frames also. PITA!

PITA? You welded the new threaded rod onto the round plate at the front of the spring housing--is that where you welded it?

Yes, It can always be torched apart later simply by cutting the bolt head off the opposite end of the track tensioner. Just be careful of the spring tension. I know it's NOT the correct way to replace the rod.

As I look at it, it appears that it would be easier to replace the tension bold by removing the sprocket and pulling the bolt out the rear of the spring housing. I would have to cut off that cover over the bolt head and weld that back on later. That appears easier than removing those 8 old bolts that the spring housing is mounted with.

If you are going to go that route why not just do it correctly and pull the tensioner assy's?

Worst case scenario would be that you break the bolts that hold the tensioners to the track frames and have to heat them to remove. When I did mine 17 years ago I used an impact gun and never broke one.

Good luck these are a fun machine when all fixed and running although a bit small for big jobs.

I must have misunderstood you. I got the impression you had trouble getting the 8 bolts off so you cut and welded the threaded rod on instead. I am glad to hear you were able to take the tensioner off

Is there a special tool to pull the track back together to put in the master pin after I break the track? Or by backing off track tension is there enough slack?

If you need a distributor for a 310 case
I have one, they are hard to come by,
I bought 2 of them for my 310 Case a few years ago
and no longer need it as I sold the machine.
