I have an old 1940"s vintage TD6 IH crawler and cannot keep the starter bendix spring and bolt(the one that screws into the armture shaft)from breaking,I have replaced it twice and had a starter shop do it once, now its broke again. the starter number is 1108925,does any one know if there is a better starter that would replace this old one, thanks for any help on this,Al

I would pull the starter and examine the ring gear very closely. I always start mine with the hand crank, but we did change the ring gear on one and its a JOB! i have TD6 AND TD9 starters (used) and have an extra starter handle and several parts tractors. best of luck, chuck.

thanks for the reply chuck,I have the starter off, ring gear and drive gear are in good shape, this tractor has a front mount hyd pump for the B-E dozer,I replaced the engine block years ago with a Farmall 450D block so I know what is involved to replace the ring gear,it"s alwas been hard to start,I have been through the carb, mag.plugs, checked the starting linkage,I wondering if it needs a pump diconnect so it would turn the engine over better in cold weather,I"m in central Iowa, where are you located,Al

My second question is what plugs are you using? I abhore champion plugs but the only one seems to work in the td6 and 9 is the champ W89D. Very unusual looking plug and very foul resistant and as you might guess they are readily available at $9+ each! Third question is checking the adjust on the spring loaded arm on the pump, making sure it turns fuel all off. Tractor wants to keep running while trying to shut down. My first question is checking not only the adjustment of the butterflies in the intake manifold, but verifing that they close all the way each time. This problem stumped me for months! best wishes, chuck.
