So I inherited a TD9 and am going through trying to get it running smoothly after sitting for 8 years. After getting it switched over to diesel and letting it warm up it seems run a little rough. The odd part is if I lift the blade up all the way up the engine will smooth out, but as soon as I put the blade down it's back to running rough. I went through and bleed the air from the system. Could the injection timing be causing this?

you talking about missing and smoking while idling? could need injector work or things gummed up. have you replaced fuel filters? whats the guage on pump reading? it should be smoothening out the warmer it gets. throw a card board in front of rad and get temp to climb to operating. basically just get new fuel in it with some conditioner and give it a good work out for a few hrs. and see if it smartens up. make sure the injection pump oil is changed. they usually fill with diesel from the tranfer pump leaking.also did you bleed the diesel filters while running on gas? your timing out a few degrees will not cause a miss. whats the exhaust saying? blue puffs coming out?

After sitting 8 years you better changed the fuel filters and check too the air cleaner and change oil and filter after running a couple hours

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it seem to miss and has a puff of white/blue smoke. No I haven't replaced the fuel filters yet, although cleaned out the glass fuel traps, and yes I did bleed the filters when on gas. Also the air cleaner looks good, and I changed the oil. I put conditioner in the fuel and have run it for about an hour. Plan to do more this afternoon. Checked the injector pump oil and it looks good. Also the fuel pressure gauge in reading in well into the operating range. I guess what through me for a loop was that if the was raised the blade then it smoothed out.
