Floating loader feature on Ford 4500

I got my service manuals the other day and was excited to find that my 4500 has the float feature on the loader which will come in mighty handy smoothing over all the holes I'm digging.

The only problem is the loader won't float.

When I push the control lever all the way, it just lowerd the loader and lifts the front end.

Maybe the float has never been used and isn't
popping all the way into the detent position. I
don't know what kind of valve it has but my loader
has float and it won't go in if the bracket that
holds the lever is loose.

That may be the problem. The control levers have a lot of play in them.

On my Case 480D Backhoe, I move the leaver forward with a fast action and it lowers a small amount and then floats.
In other words---Move leaver FAST through down position.

Waaaaayyyy too much play. How would you fix this? Weld in a bushing?
