Boss bought a new Cat skid loader about 1 year ago. They have had a lot of trouble with the rubber tracks coming off. Sorry I don't know the model. Does anyone know if there is a design problem with a certain model machine, I'm guessing it is op error, but I didn't think it would hurt to ask the pros on this site. Thanks to all and have fun digging dirt.

I haven't heard anything specific about any one particular model CAT, but the general idea I get, from the talk I hear, is that they are junk for the most part. That said what's happening sounds more like operator error than anything else. About the only thing beyond that that would cause the tracks to be thrown off as a regular occurance would be that they aren't tight enough, a bearing in the idler is bad and has it setting crooked, or something like that.

I've been working on equipment for a long time and for any type of tracked machine that's throwing a track the cause almost always comes down to one of the reasons listed above. About the only times I've seen it happen that wasn't operator error or a mechanical problem was when the track got something caught up in it like a limb, etc, and that caused it to kick off. Even then that problem could often be attributed to operator error because he wasn't really paying attention to what he was doing....
