loading dozer on trailer

I just bought a Case 550E dozer. I"ve got a 12 ton trailer I"ve been using for my excavator that I"d like to also use for the dozer. The trailer has steel ramps with angle iron cross pieces, ladder style. Will the dozer slide on the ramps? Do most people add wood to them? The trailer has a dovetail so is not too steep, but I"m new to dozers and don"t want to get part way up and start sliding.
Thanks

Just throw a tire on each side about half way up and on at the break over point on the top of the ramps. That will solve the problem. I have done that several times. Junk tires work fine.

AMP What is your excavator steel tracks or rubber?
If your excavator is triple bar steel the dozer should do better than the excavator. I use a shin long board that usually last about two or three loadings then get another.

the excavator is a PC50 komatsu, rubber track. It's only a 12,000 lb. machine. Do you put boards on your ramps?

Thanks,
Greg

I welded some 1" key stock on the sides of my ramps after a OMG moment with my Komatsu. The tracks are wide enough that if it does slide it can only slide 3 or 4".

Tell me about your "moment". I'm new at this and need to hear what not to do as well as what to do.

Thanks,
Greg

I get a buddy to do my hauling... IIRC, he's got some grouser bar or something similar welded to the beavertail. He doesn't have ramps tho. Just use some blocking to get on the back of the float and then clamor on up. As someone else said... a couple of tires will help if you're working in wet conditions or freezing temperatures. Frozen tracks and a frozen float deck are the worst thing you can deal with... Best to get everything level if you can... at least side to side. Coming off backwards is not really a big deal. Going off the side... that's not so much fun.

Got me some 1/4 inch thick wore out belting from the local charcoal plant and I throw it on the ramps and thats it and stuff hasnt gotten torn or hung up yet.Loaded before and the pads get stuck in the ramps and man what a deal that was
