IH 260a backhoe inj. pump

I have a 260a quit running. Acts as if the electric shut off, shut off. Have juice to the connection but I cannot here or feel a solinoid click. I have a book on the ag version, the 574 w/ a d239. However it shows a cable shut off instead of an electric shut off. Question is, does this sound right? Is there a manual override? Can't really get to anything without pulling the pump. Any help or comments are appreciated.

NOT familiar with that setup. What is the pump... CAV or Bosch?

But, in general, if there IS an electric shutoff, you SHOULD be able to hear at least a faint "click" when putting power to it.

Put a test light in series between the 12 Volt source and the terminal on the shutoff and see if the at least light, proving that the solenoid coil is not "open".

I DOUBT there is a way to mechanically override it.

If its a rotary Cav or Bosch it does not have a mechanical override to start as the solenoid is spring loaded to shut the fuel off when the key is off,if you have power at the terminal attach a test lamp, key on the lamp should light, watch the lamp and hit start,if the light goes out there could be a problem in the ignition switch, use a jump wire then directly and see if it starts,if the light remains on remove the solenoid,be careful not to lose the plunger and spring, put the solenoid back without the plunger and spring and try to start,if its starts you need a new solenoid,if its a Cav pump it will have a mechanical stop lever to the front of the throttle lever that can be used to stop the engine,if its a Bosch you will have to stall it.

If you have a Bosch rotary VA CR model pump with electric shutoff I doubt you will hear it click. Pump has to come off to remove/replace the 4 solenoid retaining screws. The solenoid when energized pushes a pin to move the throttle control spool about 1/8 inch to the run position. Some IH combines used this system too.

Thanks guys for the response. It is a bosch rotary. Can't read the numbers. Mayby after I get it off. It has 12 volts both with the key on and with the key in start. And yes it has to come off to get to the solinoid. I know some pumps have an override. Cummins PT for one.I was hoping to get lucky and at least get it up out of the hole and back to the shop to work on. Oh well, so it go's. Thanks again. Jody

Yes the Cummins PT did, switch on the key and give the pump a gentle tap,it might switch on and get you going.
Good luck
