The original subject was "Re: Ford Backhoe series?".

I couldn"t download the PDF, it says it was deleted by the owner. Any chance of getting another link posted for the ford 550 manual? Thanks for the help.

My tractor stopped moving in any gear today and I don"t yet have a clue why? I would like any help I can get. Starting with a link to the operations manual which would show how to troubleshoot what might be the problem. I have bought a service manual on cd and a parts manual, neither offered any specific help. Thanks again for any help.

The manual I had posted the link for was the parts manual for 1975 550,the host site delete the file if there is no download after a certain length of time,I just looked through it and it shows two types of transmission, one a conventional manual clutch and the other a shuttle type with a torque converter,if yours is the torque type check the oil level, look at the control linkage, make sure the manual gearbox is going into gear etc.

I"m not sure if the 550 has it, but the 555 has a solenoid valve run by a foot switch or a buttom on the end of the loader control stick to put the transmission in neutral when dumping the bucket. You might want to disconnect the wire to it and/or make sure the spool is free. We hit a rock with ours once and bent the solenoid enough that it went into neutral on its own.

Yes Lfc you are correct the 550 does have the electric clutch cutout, the control is probably stuck in the disengaged position,as said take the wires off and see if drive is working.
