Can I remove the starter motor from the pony motor starter assembly or do I have to remove the entire assy to get to the starter motor for repair. I let the smoke out of the start switch and need to refill it.

thx,
jon

4 bolts to remove the cast housing its attached to, there is a set screw on top, I have taken both the starter and the housing its in, off, but never separated them, I'm going to venture a guess the set screw on top holds it together. My back up spare is on the shelf without the housing, so I believe you can get the 2 separated.

I figured it out after finding the parts book calling it a set screw. Loosen the jam nut and then the bolt and it slips right out. You can indeed remove the motor from the starter without having to remove the assy. Whew!

Sometimes it looks worse than it is, and though the innards on these tractors, some of the large components require special tooling, ie; final drives, bevel gear etc, the peripheral components like these are relatively easy, simple tools etc. I had to go over and look at one of mine, and the parts book too, darned wasps were on guard though LOL, so I did not stay long ! Hopefully its a simple rebuild. I find that the hand crank works well if the pony is in good tune, nice blue spark and good fuel.

If you are talking about the 6 volt starter motor for the pony, yes you can take that out without much trouble.

question rather than an answer!!I'm trying to remove the pony motor on D73t CAT and replace with electric motor
how many bolts to remove thought I found them all but guess I haven't
