Have D2 cat with loader on it so not easy to work on, but is there any way to adjust slider pinion to start big engine. Just wants to grind when lever is pulled up to kick poney in. Thanks for any help. PS have books but don't show much, there is a small inspection plate on belhousing buy the lever.

have you tried pushing down on the lever first to stop the gears and then pull up? seems like that worked pretty good on one of my cats........chuck

are you pulling the clutch lever up before you try to engage the pinion? Pulling up theoretically stops the pinion gear from spinning--no adjustment on the clutch but many have changed the clutch oil to ATF with better results.

Always had to pull lever up before starting poney Then push clutch lever foward to start big engine but lately it kicked out unless u hold in, now won't engage.

sounds like the pinion assembly/latches have come loose or broken. Remove the small plate on the bell housing thats to the upper left of the left brake pedal and you can see the pinion end and latches.

The boys at the ACMOC.com site will be able to be more specific in answering your questions. I'd stroll over their..

since you have the manuals go to the parts manual page that shows clutch and starter pinion.
The latch assembly is way over on the right at the end of the shaft.
The bolts holding it on to the shaft often become loose or broken. The latches may break or wear also. You need to check thru that tiny plate hole that sleeve assembly is still fastened to the shaft and pinion gear.
