Hello, like the other person said make sure the liners weren't short on top because it would create a combustion leak which would allow hot gasses to go straight to the coolant and that would cause the radiater to boil eventually. Also, make sure the timing is right on the money. Double check all the thermostat and associated parts to make sure they are assembled correctly and are functional. I am suspicious of the head gasket however. If it is damaged or installed incorrectly it will over heat right away and all the tricks you try to make her run cool will not work. If the head gasket is on up side down the cooling gallies would be blocked off and that will create a major over heating issue. Some of the gallies are blocked while others are not. You will have coolant flowing in strange directions and sometimes not at all. She will boil with in minutes after starting her up. The reason I keep on about this is because I did it one time by mistake and it was a mess. We were working on a truck and the gasket for a 3406 b series cat was put on up side down and I did not notice it. I trusted a yung fellow to install it while I went for parts and he did not double chek to make sure everything was correct. It was really my falt because I was responcible for the job. I came back from the parts store and they had her buttoned up and I assumed that they knew how to place the head gasket. Wow, that was a mess. We fooled around with it for several days before we finely just came to grips and tore it down again. Sure enough as soon as the head came off it was apparent that the gasket was not on correctly. We did not have to do any more just went and got another gasket and re-installed it and put it all back together and it ran perfectly. Of course if a engine builder did it himself I am pretty sure your gasket is probably on correctly, which means you have another problem!!!! Take the rad cap off and get her running and watch for the bubbles in the coolant. Make sure the coolant is moving at all. Did you do the rebuild yourself? It is a very complex machine and there are many reasons that would make it have a over heating problem. Well, good luck and keep us posted on the out come of everything. R G the first standing by.
