Found an AC H4 Dozer

Rancher asked if I wanted to purchase his H4 or HD4 dozer. What should I look for and how to test if it operates ok. He replaced the main clutch and the left steering clutch last year and tonight he and his son are replacing the right clutch. No photos as yet but will go ck it out tonight or tomorrow and post. A good price could be a wide range but maybe a range of sort. Any help is appreciated. thanks you all.

I am only going use it on my property to move bolders, trees and lots of dirt.
 
if it is a Detroit diesel and all the clutchs work
and the engine runs good and clean. in my area in ohio 2000- 5000 is the usual price range
 
If it is h or hd4 it"s torque converter w/power shift,plus a 3speed trans. It has a 201 ci.ALLIS CHALMERS engine gas or diesel .Have worked on several RON
 
Have someone go with you that knows about crawlers, especially the undercarriage. If it needs undercarriage that can cost way more than the machine is worth.
 
Ron, is having the torque conv good? It is a HD4 with ROPS. From what I understand this unit is small and handy, not a unit to be used as a construction machine. The weight and size are compatible with my trailer and needs. For the price right now I cannot afford a Skid Steer if all is usable on it. Are there ways to operate to prevent damage to the machine? I heard that you need a decelerator? or it would be best to have one Why? what does it do? How do you operate it without one? What have you found the most troublesome about the HD4?
