Mustang 960 skid steer, inner race

My dad is working an a 1995 Mustang 960 skid steer, and though he managed to get the old bearing races out, he cant get the new inner one in. (This is the tractor where the inner race goses down in through the oil case to insert)

We know we have the correct races as the part number on the new and old are the same, and we don"t think the new one is defective, as he cant even get the old one back in: they just wont go in straight.
Hes tried standard pullers, using the old bearing in the race and pulling, and even got a machinist to make a cone like puller, and he"s tried a slap puller. We"ve put the race in the freezer, greased where it goes, honed where it goes, and we just cant get it to go in, as no matter how straight we start it, it goes crooked before it gets in all the way.

Ideas?!????

Don't know how much clearance you have got where you are working, but I would put it in till it starts going crooked and then use a drift to pound the high side down level and then pull it in a little at a time. I have run across this from time to time using a hydraulic press but I just keep pressing it in till it goes straight.

Well we finally got it in, but we did grind a little off the race. Unfortunatly, this thing was too tight of space to pound from the inside: all we could do to get the puller in.

Now for getting the chains back on ....
