Just when you think you got it licked...

Something else goes wrong! What is with this Murphy guy anyway? Greased the cat all up and went to dig a big hole to pump water into. Cleared a small area of light bush and backed in to start digging. Everything was working GREAT... for 20 minutes. I looked down and saw a fine mist of hyd. fluid but couldn't tell which line it is coming from. Luckily I could pick everything and drive it out. I tried all the controls and couldn't see a leak anymore. Then I tried everything again and held the the controls against the relief valve for a couple seconds longer. The hose to pull the stick in on the backhoe blew a tiny pinhole.

Lifted the hoe up and drove the Cat back to where I had tools. The hose that sprung a leak had been replaced before and looked in great shape with none of the cover worn at all. It was Eastman Dayco hose rated for 4000 PSI. The machine is only 2500 PSI. Guess I won't buy Dayco hose again.

The only place I knew that might be open to get a hose was Princess Auto. They have good hose and it's relatively cheap compared to some other places. Went to the west end store that was closest but they were out of 1/2" hose. The guy said he could make a hose out of 3/8" but I said that wouldn't work on a backhoe. I asked if the south side store had 1/2" hose and he said they did, so off I went. I got the hose and some more kevlar sleeve to put over it but it was too late to back to my land and put it on. The new is the same ID but smaller OD. Oddly it is rated for 5000 PSI. So much for having a nice relaxing holiday Monday. I got to go put a hose on. Hopefully no more problems for a while.

Ahh, Dayco hose. A cheap hose at a cheap price. Been there, done that. Got the T-Shirt. It didn't take me long to switch back to Parker or Gates hose. Just too much wasted time and oil on Dayco stuff. They have the pressure rating... until it ages a bit... then BOOM. It's still only a two wire hose at best. Mabey not even that.

Stinkweld,If you had one like this you would have had the work done already and wouldn't have to consult master mechanics lol.

Starting with the name calling. Now that shows some real class Lou!

No, I don't have a garage to park it in and take pictures of a static display. As far as needing a master mechanic... I guess JDE's vast knowledge and extensive experience with Olivers means nothing to you? I'd even go as far to say that without his help, you'd have a pile of scrap iron. WOW, what a way to slap a real master mechanic in the face! Don't know why anyone would want to help you anymore after that. Proud of yourself?

Stick weld. The letters are to close together so my fingers picked out the c or N. Didn't realize it until it was printed . lol. Now as far as J de is concerned at least I had the brilliance of mind to talk with him and take his suggestions rather then sitting at the computer gripeing about the numerous failures of your badly needed maintenance or none at all when you describe your worn out crawler that seems like it never gets any preventative maintenance but just WELL USED over and over. remember , a well maintained unit will last and be at the ready when call upon to perform. I really think you should take your own advice and scrap the one you are trying to patch up . Seems like yours is becoming a MONEY PIT that you preach.

Lou, your finger would have to be 2" wide! Do you think before you post? In your attempt to try and stir the pot with me you made several huge blunders. The biggest is you completely dissed JDE and there is NOTHING you can say that will change that, NOTHING! What I'm reading above is that you didn't want to list all the problems your worn out machine had on this forum. Yes, your machine was worn out and abused.

My machine gets used and sometimes in less than ideal conditions. I do regular maintenance but I don't have a crystal ball to know when something out of the ordinary will go wrong. Put 1500 or 2000 hours on your little Oliver and it will need some repairs. A well parked machine will last too. Hope you put Stabil in the gas tank.

Welllllllllll ,I type at the speed of light.Sometimes typing becomes a complete blur when addressing ignorant, know it all people. HINT HINT HINT . Now keeping with my train of thought, Just how do you figure I dissed Jde?
I'm not a farmer and even though we have a great I.H 706 , I haven't dissed any ground.I am indebted to Jde for all the advice and information he gave us. I keep thinking of a NOT SO KNOWLEDGEABLE like you who wanted me to cut 2" off one side of the new track plates. Remember that error you suggested??? All any one has to do to see that blunder is to go search the archives.Seems like to me your maintenance is most inadequate on your wreck. Bet you think that putting fuel in the tank and water in the radiator is maintenance. lol. I think you missed all our posts on our dozer, everything we did was posted with pictures,or are you forgetting that to your benefit?Again CHECK THE ARCHIVES!!!!!!!!! You're the one who thinks you are so knowledgeable on everything from soup to nuts pertaining to most every subject on this forum, why ask questions to which you already (supposedly)have the answer to? Sounds like you would be money ahead to scrap out your old worn out dozer, and hire a professional to do the work.Another one of your suggestions to us. See archives.

We aren't the ones on here asking about our dozer problems, one after the other, see we do preventative maintenance on ours, like the gas tank and engine oil in the cyl to keep it from sticking every year, unlike you,who seem to forget about any maintenance at the end of the year, and only add stabil to yours.Remember a good mechanic never breaks more parts than is trying to put on the machine. So how much did that $15.00 bolt cost you so far???

Definition: "1. dissing someone is showing disrespect to them"

Yah Lou, check the archives! If that's not dissing someone I don't know what is! You were so quick with your sharp wit, you insulting the one person who without his knowledge, you're little toy would still be in pieces! Putting oil in the cylinders? That's not preventive maintenance, that's preventive lack of use. It won't break if it never gets used. You should put it on a trailer already and call it Elizabeth the 3rd! LoL

I thought the whole purpose of this forum was to help each other out? I actually do appreciate the help I've gotten over the years. You, apparently, not so much. HMMM????

Well you never said what archive I dissed J de on. Cant find it??? Never happened .!!!!!About not using the O.C? Here is another picture of it sitting in the garage as a Beauty queen. What a maroonnnnnnn as bugs use to say. still waiting for your Archive number where you stated I Dissed J.de. Now you have to prove it!!!

poke here

I put the quote from your first reply to this thread where you dissed JDE. How could you miss that? You used your machine for a whole 5 minutes and 29 seconds, wow! Well, if you take the time off for changing direction, lifting the bucket, it works out to about 4 minutes. LoL

You don't actually call that working the machine do you? Good thing you have soft ground. If you tried that in packed clay would be a good way to bend your bucket cylinders and/or your bucket. If you don't believe me ask anyone else who runs loaders. It even warns against it most manuals and that's without a 2' extension on the front of the bucket. You better leave it in the garage if you run it like that. New cylinders aren't cheap! Unbelievable!!!

hi stick welding---I agree with checking relief valve--as far as input on building I read on another site------good ideas there---,but run it by LOU to be sure-----good luck.

Dave

You have been licked ever since you came over that bridge and seen the goats. remember somebody whined and it got poofed to bad Lou could read it and get a good laugh just like I did when I wrote it. Keep whining it is fun to listen

mnoliverguy:
I always get a laugh at Dave"s post when he gets caught with his britches down lol. I notice he starts a post/ rant and when he gets replies as to how to fix his problem -s ie. Building a building for covering his worn out crawler that keeps breaking down after no preventave maintainance, he never thanks the posters who are kind enough to respond.Little does he know that I would never go against Jde"s advice when it comes to crawler /dozer repairs. That fellow is a mechanical genius in My mind. well any way, I tolerate Daves post and just consider the source. I believe he should stick to subjects he knows something about( wait a minute,,, If he did that, we would NEVER read any of his replies/ posts. What a blessing that would be. LOL. LOU.

Well SICK WELD, Show me where I* Used Jds name in my post to you!!Never happened,As for using the tree spade, it is not a problem as using a bale spear on front end loaders transporting 1500# bales of hay, over rough bumpy fields. Hyd cylinders are new on our dozer when we bought it. See it's what we know about our dozer that you don't know about yours is hurting your credibility.Since I have run more earth moving equip than you, I know of what I speak. It's called experience, not like you, give yourself another 40 years, you "might" learn something on dozers and crawlers. Just another tidbit of info for you, different ground composition calls for different techniques, IE what works on one type, won't work on another type of ground. You just have to be smart enough to know the difference, like I said, "maybe" for you 40 more years.Since you like manuals, Have you read yours lately? I'm sure they mention things like filter changes and checking the screen on the pump.Above all covering the machine when not in use.The biggest one I'm sure of, it mentions taking it to a "professional mechanic" for repairs,if you don't know what you are doing. Just think it would have saved you all the time and money replacing that $15.00 bolt.
Did you notice our machine kept running and still is after we done all the things we needed done for earthmoving? We are going to use the spade to dig a ditch to the new shed for a power line, saves shoveling. If you wish we can video it for you so you can see how a dozer is supposed to work and run.Might even put some audio explaining to you why we are doing what we are doing and why, plus a little background music I'll write and perform, just for you.
