Cat D7-17a steering brakes

Steering brakes are not helping me turn much. Left one is very very poor (pedal goes way forward - little if any function) and the right one works poor but better in reverse. They need either to be adjusted or new bands. I have an owners manual, but you guys have "been there and done that" and I find your knowledge better than the book. I know there is a service cover held with four bolts under the seat on top of the case to the rear (both sides). Also, I know there is a service cover on the back of the case (both sides). Now what do I do to diagnose and adjust or repair. Thank you.

You can adjust a nut top of the brake band through the top cover you mentioned to compensate for wear. If pads are worn too much or sometimes worn clear off will need to be replaced. Can be done through both cover you mentioned. Not too bad of a job to do.

Like WHITE 7 adjuste your brake until you have 3 1/2" free play on brake pedal and you should have on 3 3/4" on top stering cluch lever for good turning
