I put the new check valves in the transfer pump but didn't get to see if it solved the loss of power problem. The old ones didn't look bad but who knows? I had to take the bolts out of the oil cooler and move it down just a bit so I could get the bottom bolt out of the transfer pump. I put everything back together and it started right up and I ran it for 5 to 10 minutes.

Looked good and no leaks so I drove it about 100 yards and checked again for leaks. No fuel leaks but oil was dripping. Closer inspection showed that the top tab the oil cooler bolts to had pulled off. I don't know if the heat from warming it up caused the cast iron to break like that or not. I think it's a 5/16" bolt and I was careful to tighten the 2 bolts evenly. Anyway I need to fix it. Is the attachment point for the oil cooler a separate piece or part of the engine block? It's a non turbo with just the small round oil cooler. The bottom of the injection pump also bolts to this piece. Being that it's cast iron, it's not the easiest thing to repair, especially if I have to do it in place on the machine. Probably best to replace it if possible rather than trying to fix it in place on the side of the engine. If it is part of the block, can it be drilled and tapped deeper into the housing? Your help is appreciated.

I think the cooler bolts to a raised boss on the block. If so it needs to be welded up and resurfaced and drilled. Any problem there you could lose your oil and engine. I wouldn't drill any deeper never know what you will hit.It may have been from a seal out of place.

Glad you posted that Stick Welding. I tried getting that bottom bolt out and nothing I had would work. I am going to try a wobble extension---not going to pull that oil cooler!! Just picked up the valves and if I can't get the pump off going to replace the valves in place.

I used a cheap screw driver set that comes with a few small sockets and a 1/4" hex extension. The socket was thin enough to fit the bolt but I had to use a 1/4" wrench on the hex piece to loosen the bolt.
