Take it off and apart. Pin on back rides on pump cam. Take note of direction check valves are installed .

Thanks Bob. On the other post I mentioned there was some fibrous stuff I pulled out of the screen. I was wondering if there's some kind of other screen in the hex piece in addition to the metal screen? At first I thought it was brass filings but it was more like really strong fine strands of string. Would it be a good idea to get a new screen assembly?

If you can clean it and it isn't coming apart it should be fine, if not replace it. That stuff might be in the check valves too. It is very common for the check valve flaps to break up. You are getting fuel just not enough for any power. Later Bob

I got the new check valves and all the o-rings to reassemble. It cost $15.99 at Union tractor. Trying to find the screen assy. took forever cause it wasn't listed with the transfer pump and every other picture of a transfer pump showed a hand primer that I don't have. Finally found a good picture and I should have the right parts.

That's one of the parts diagrams I got. It's stupid that the screen and hex fitting that attaches on the pump isn't shown. After much looking finally found the diagram with the screen and hex fitting.

We found the primary fuel filter right away. The guy helping me has sold Cat parts forever and he thought it was dumb that the screen and hex fitting isn't shown with the pump or the fuel lines.
