Seal for Case 450 Charge Pump

Hi,

I recently bought an early 70's Case 450 with the 188 diesel. It's mostly in good shape but the charge pump is losing its prime within a day or two when the machine doesn't sit downhill. The previous owner was aware and just normally parked it downhill.

Based on my searching and the older threads I have read here in this forum (and elsewhere), it appears that rebuilding/replacing the charge pump would be the fix.

However, among all the suggestions from people to replace the seal, I haven't seen any information about where to get one or what type it is. Where is everyone getting the rebuild kit/shaft seal from? I'd rather not spend $300 on a new pump if I can just replace the seals. I have yet to pull the pump to look at the shaft seal to avoid potentially making it worse by further damaging the seal so I'm not sure if it is a widely available type or not.

Thanks for the help.

Most shops that sell bearings or seals will have the seal you need. Your best bet is to take the entire pump in.

If I were you I would take the pump in and get it rebuilt and resealed. Why not? You will get years of service out of the old girl.

Good luck!
