I have located a 1956 military 933. I think it"s an 11A. It has a hand engine clutch and hand steering brake levers. In reading thru past posts here, I see reference to a reverser gear in the transmission. Was that available in the 11A, or the military models of that vintage? How can I tell if it is so equipped? I have some fencerows to clean up, but I also have about 1000 tons of lime stockpiled that I need to load and spread, and some spoils that were cleaned out of the pond that needs to be moved and spread. I am not sure how easy the back and forth loader work would be without some kind of reverser to save shifting from first to reverse and doing it all with a hand clutch! Are the military tracks suitable for what I need to do? Thanks--Mike |

| The 933 11A does not have a reverser lever,it is much the same as a D2 with a loader frame attached, the later models the 933F & G 42A series had the reverser, its a good solid loader and will give years of service, when they do go wrong thing like the gearbox and clutches were not the easiest to work on but it can be done, overall a good loader.

| I can't give an answer to your question on that machine but will offer up one word of caution. Dad worked at both the CAT and A/C dealerships from the 70's til the mid 80's, and occasionally ran up on a few ex military machines of both brands. In every case he said there was always a problem finding certain parts for them because the military spec machines were different than a similar civilian machine. I never remember hearing him say that the differences were in regard to any specific part, just that there were differences that often made getting parts more difficult than normal. That said if you can get the machine for a good price and it's in good condition then it might be a deal, but there is the chance that if it ever needs work finding parts might not be as easy as it would for a non-military machine. |

| I would not be afraid of the direct drive. It is worth getting used to for the security of knowing you are not up against very expensive repairs. Reversers and power shift can cost an unbelievable amount of money to repair if something goes wrong. I know the early 955 had a high speed reverse, I am not sure if the 933 did or not. |
