850 case dozer knock

I have an 850 case dozer that has developed a peck, not as noticeable as a knock. At idle it is almost impossible to hear. The more the engine is revved up, the easier it is to hear. The peck seems to be in the very front of the engine on the right side. Engine does not seem to miss or do anything else out of the ordinary. Dozer has 8k hours on it and has never given any motor problems before. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That may be opportunity knocking - the opportunity to spend a bunch of money to remove the knock.

Could be several things. Do you have a mechanic's stethoscope to help pinpoint the location?

Any engine that is knocking or making any strange noise needs to be stopped pronto till the reason is found, have a look at the front at things like the engine mountings, fan, water pump, alternator and hydraulic pump drive,if they are OK take out the engine oil filter and see if there are any metal flakes in it,if so a bearing is bad and more than likely it will be a rod bearing,it has done a fair few hours and even if it is a rod bearing the shaft can be ground and reused, that why it is important to shut it down before the damage goes too far.
