JD 440 engine removal

Clutch is stuck on 440 JD crawler/loader.

Can bolts on valve cover be used (with a bracket) to pull/remove the engine?
Not conducive to put strap or chain under/around engine.
Don"t really want to removed manifold, but may have to?
Doesn"t seem to be much other choices.
Suggestions?

Rodger, Yes the 2 tappet cover studs that are to be fine thread can be used to lift/remove the engine from the tranny. Infact john deere made special eyed tools that screwed on for the dealers for that exact reason. I have 2 of them. I put them both on then I put a drawl bolt in the eyes with a clevis in the middle. It is very handy and works great to remove engines. a complete motor is perfectly balanced in the center of the 2 tappet cover bolts. Just make sure they are built heavy enough. Safety first.

I use a piece of flat strap drilled to go over both studs with another piece on edge welded in between the studs with a hole drilled in it. Pulled more engines than I can think of this way. Like JD addict says, Deere did it only lifting on one stud, two is just that much safer.
