jd 310 battery cables/battery

i need to make some battery cables for my purchased badly abused but repairable jd 310d diesel backhoe. jdparts.com is no help. anybody know what gauge wire goes in the battery cables - size of wired in bundle and about how many? also how many amps battery for 2 bat app. when i got it it had a piece of 12 gauge 3 lead romex for a posotive lead. - what were they thinking???/ would the battery leads from a ford f-250 7.3 liter v8 diesel work???
 
Get the biggest wire you can. I use welding cable. A local truck and trailer repair shop has terminals and a crimping machine to install them. They have the wire also but it is not as flexible as welding cable. You need to know how long the wire needs to be and the size bolt that will be used to attach it to the tractor. Also attach the ground as close to the starter as you can.

According to JDPARTS.com the ground cable and the cable between batteries is 62mm2 which is between O & OO gauge wire, the cable to the starter is 50mm2 which is approximately equal to O gauge wire. I would make the battery cable from OO welding cable if it were mine.
