Have a 1948 kbs-7 International truck has cracked block. (gas motor) Would like to know if International had a optional diesel motor and if so what was it. Would like to restore this truck. Thank you in advance for your time.

Not at that time somewhere around late 58 or so got diesel in the L 190 ect but never in the KBs.
The 6 cylinder cummins that is in some of the Dodge pickup would be something that could be or the ih 466 engine. Either would be a lot of work.
IF you decide to do it buy the donor truck where you can get all the motor mounts ect. Lots more to it than just the engine. All sorts of problems like throttle , air in, exaust out. I have been doing conversions for years and that one will be work. I do have a replacement gas engine for you truck.

If you add a heavier engine without adding a power steering system, you will have a real hard steering truck. Neighbor put a big V8 in an old pickup that originally had a small 6 cyl. engine; it steered so hard that he gave up and let the pickup set - and it's still sitting in the woods.

If he want to go the route of SWAPPING today he really has a lot of options . You mentioned the DT 466 , you forgot about the 466's little brother . The D360 or DT360 a bit smaller and found in I H school buses Or the 6.9'-7.3 also found in school busses . He could get the whole drive line out of and old school bus and all the drive line . Then it would be a matter of motor mounts and a Radiator and wiring. He could also look for and old load star that ran , now here i am not sure of the Cu.In of the engines but they were either in the D263 -D310 and i am not sure if they were the same as in the Farmall 560's or they were the combine engines with no sleeves.

Nothing would be easy but the school bus complete swap is the easiest to do. I just never was a fan of the 360 as in the two tons they were somewhat weak. I wish him all the luck in the world but sure nothing I would want to try. Just too many problems.
