I"m looking at a 500c that keeps having the right steering clutch go out. The current owner has the manuals and has replaced it 3 times only to have the right one go out after a few hours use. Any one have a guess as to what is going on?

the 500c is known to have the nut on the final drive pinion shaft become loose and then the bearing becomes destroyed.

He may not be getting it adjusted right after instlation. Will need to put it in run it about 10 hrs Then re adjust it. They were known for being not so good but never anything like that. Should get well over 1000 hrs depending on the use and operator. Turning under load or riding the steering will shorten the life.

Thanks for the input. The price is right on the dozer . He has just become discusted with it. I had heard about the bearing issue and suspected it since the last time he put it in it only lasted about 3 hours.

The early 500s sometimes developed a mis-alignment of the final drive housing, causing the Fibre plates to break up.I imagine wearing of mounting bolts, etc caused this. Not sure if the later 500s were same.
