I removed the transmission cover on my 340 tonight since it was hytrans leaking through the gasket. The man I purchased the crawler from had recently replaced the steering clutch shoes. However I discovered that the rotors that form the planetary sun gears are badly grooved, causing accelerated wear on the shoe linings. Can these rotors be taken out and touched up in a lathe? I would remove just enough material to make them smooth again. Also, can these rotors be removed without taking apart the final dive housings. I just replaced the brakes on this machine and it was quit a chore, I would rather not have go through all that disassembly again. Your advice is greatly appreciated. |

| Ran and ih repair and salvage yard during the years of that little crawler. yes the groves Will make the shoes wear but what happens the brake pads kinda get worn in to the groves so it is not as important as one would think unless you have that dozer out trying to make a living running it 8 hrs a day. If you have time to spare repair would be great but not one of those things that just has to be done. Just my two cents worth. |

| sven, I turned mine on a lath and the way I remember they smoothed out good enough. I don't think you can get them out without the final drives off though. They say the shoes are not availible any more but can be relined by a shop. |
