have a uniloader with g188 diesle, has fresh rebuild, is smoking heavy bluesmoke, burn your eys with raw fuel smell, injectors, or pump?????

Know someone else with an old 1845 (188) doing the same thing after a rebuild but it's from burning engine oil. Maybe the rings haven't seated yet? They didn't in my Cat but there was no smoke despite going through oil like crazy. Put some hours on it and put it to work. It may clear up.

Was it smoking before the rebuild,a full rebuild would include the injectors and pump,if it wasn't smoking before hand and you did not have the injectors/pump serviced I would go along with working it hard for a spell to see if it clears up,but first check if it's got one of those thermo-start glow plugs in the manifold, sometimes those plugs can leak neat diesel into the manifold and cause a lot of smoke as well as damage to the cylinder walls by washing the oil from the bores,if you got one check it out, take off the intake air pipe and see the glow plug is dry.
Good luck

POSSIBLY I NEVER HAD THE PUMP OFF, JUST DID BASIC, KIT, BEARINGS, LINER KITS, PISTIONS, AND VALVES, WAS SMOKING BEFORE, THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE LOW COMPRESSION, RINGS, WHEN I GOT MACHINE AIR FITLER HAD HOLE IN IT SUCKING IN DIRT, DOES RUN BETTER AND SMOOTHER, NOW, STILL HAS RAW FUEL SMELL, HAVE INJECTORS COMING TODAY, GOING TO TRY THAT, IM SURE THEY ARE PROBLABLY DUE ANYWAY, MACHINE HAS HAD LITTLE MAINTINACE.

It may very well have injectors that is not atomizing the fuel properly, they do need service every now and then and once you done them you will know better where you stand,if you do have the glow plug give it a check, take off the fuel pipe attached to it,use a piece of soft hose, put one end up against the nipple where the pipe goes and the other in your mouth and try to blow through it,if you feel the pressure going away the plug is leaking.if its solid its ok.
Good luck

no luck with injectors, may have helped just a little, next i quess ill check timing, ,if timing on, must be pump claibration, i dont have the glow plug in the intake,

The injector pump is gear driven and unless something is worn it is unlikely to alter, check the timing and see how it matches up,you could advance it a bit to see if it makes any difference.

P.S.
How is the fuel supply, filters clean and moisture free, check the return line from the pump esp the valve in the elbow on top of the pump.

jdemaris posted this link for the appropriate manual for your pump. This has trouble shooting section at the beginning of it. check it out.

machine has smoked like this since i had it many years, never got much use, decided to get it going, to use for snow removal, installed all new fitlers when rebuilding engine, last week, drained and put in new fuel as it was about 5 years old, the fitting on top of my pump is a tee, checked and is just an open tee, return from injectors goes to one end, othe to return line to tank, and screws down in pump, going to check timing , may be off, agin has always be like this, thought of advancing, was going to try that after checking and marking position of pump now, local pump shop told me problably govener ring bad, says its a comon prolbem, been reading about pump, do you know where i can get parts, not afraid of tearing down pump, but would like to have seal kit and govener ring on hand, to put back together and try.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE MANUAL LINK, DO YOU KNOW WHERE IS CAN GET PARTS, FOR THE DB PUMP, ALSO MINE IS A CASE G188, DO YOU HAVE TIMING SPEC, O TDC OR ADVANCED, HAVE READ DIFFERANT INFO ON WEB, MY BOOK SAYS TDC 0 THANKS, ALSO DID CHECK TIMING IS 4 DEG RETARDED, GOING TO SET AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS, THANKS AGAIN

I HAVE CHECKED TIMING, IS ABOUT 4 DEG RETARDED, AM GOING TO SET, MY CASE BOOK SAYS 0 TDC, BUT I HAVE READ ONLINE SOME SAY AS MUCH AS 8 DEG BTC, ANY SUGESTIONS, AS TO TIMING SPECS, DO YOU KNOW IS THE TIMING MARKS WILL CHANGE IF THE AUTO ADVANCE IN PUMP IS HANGING UP OR NOT WORKING, OR MAYBE JUST SET WRONG WHEN INSTALLED, AS BEEN SMOKING SINCE I HAVE HAD MACHINE, THANKS

There is usually a decal on the rocker cover above where the timing hole is stating the timing and valve lash,if the engine does not have a turbo it is 8° before TDC,if it has a turbo it is set at 0°, it seems to very late now if its 4° after that makes it 12° late in all, loosen the pump mounting bolts and pull the top away from the engine and set it to the 8° mark, there maybe enough room in the slots,it was either put together wrong or there is something worn in the timing train.
Good luck

set timing to 8 btc, seems to run good, very little smoke, i am quessing someone misstimed it, seemed to be plenty of room in adjustment slots, started easyer than it ever has, thanks for all the input from all, if nothing changes is good to go to work and break in the new overhaul, didnt want to work it the way it was , afraid of washing new cylinder linners, thanks again,
