JD 350C Tracks/Adjuster Install

Thanks to Keith Molden, I now have a good track adjuster. My question now is can the adjuster be changed without splitting the track? I can get the bent one off with just the torch (after letting all the spring tension off). It is the install part I have a question with. I also want to check the right front idler bushing as it looks a little loose. Yes, I do have all three manuals for it. (operators, parts, service)

I do not have access to the expensive looking track press in the JD manuals. Will a heavy gear puller or something like that work? My master pins do not look like they have the snap ring. They are the same length as the others, but with the big dimple in the center. If I split the tracks, should I buy new master pins with the snap ring or just re-use the old ones?

You have late model conventional master pin. You just drive it out and use it again. Will be two small insert washers in the track link to extend the bushing. Be sure and watch how they go. Back it up on a tight block with the master at about 7/8 o clock. Take a pin knocker and punch it out then drive forward where you can slide the idler as you want.

350Cs were available with headed masterpins and snap-rings but I don't think very common. The headed pin for a C is T19006 and snap ring A378R.

If the dimpled unheaded pins have never been out before - you need two guys (or big girls I guess) - and sometimes even three is better. One guy holds some sort of big weight behind the master chain link. Another guy on the other side holds a big pin just a bit smaller OD then the master-pin - often with a big handle welded to it so the holder does not have to stand too close. The third guy swings a big sledge. Took many new pins out of new 350Cs that way. As they get older, they get easier -except when they've been welding in with some 7018.

No need to split the track just to change the track adjuster. It easily comes in an out just by unbolting it from the front idler yoke.
