What makes a Big Cam start so much easier than a 2"
cam? Got a 335, 380NTA Big Cam 290 and Big Cam 400.
All 855c.i. At 40 deg.F the Big Cams are running in
a couple revolutions, whereas the other two will
start without ether, you use it just to save the
starters. The 2" cam motors, however, smooth out and
burn clean as soon as they are running. The Big Cams
snort and belch smoke and make the garage appear to
be on fire. thanks, Fritz

i would guess by BigCam theres more lift and duration to get more fuel mixture into cylinders faster.

Frutz,,, Now that I am learning to spell it here is my take. On the latter ie. big cam engines the compression was increased a little but the big thing timing and cam duration , so I think that is what makes even a new on be not as clean on start up.. Probably anybody,s guess but that is what I have been told.

the 335 should start rather decent in the cold, the decompressor was a good deal.
the nta, because it's a low compression beast are generally a bear to get going
a big cam does have better injectors and timing which does help.

Advanced timing helps with starting, but it doesn't help much with your bottom end (lower RPM range) any, just top-end power.
