Cummings engine help

O.K. Guys straighten me out. Have a fellow who has a case excavator model 9040. He dropped a rod and needs an engine or at least a block. The information he gave me was engine was 6 cylinder Cummings 6t830 even had block casting number
3923275-1 . Googled the block or engine and came up with all kind of replies but photos show a 4 cyl block different casting number and says it fits case ih tractors like 7110 & 7120 . Are their two versions of a Cummings 6t830 engine . Like 6 cyl & 4 cyl ?
 
not trying to be a spell check freak but i did find a picture of your engine using Cummins 6t830 engine...site is european but its definitly a 6 cyl.

Seeing a man's name spelled wrong like that is like dragging fingernails across a blackboard. There is not and has never been a G in Cummins.
 
Try a truck salvage yard. The 8.3's were used in alot of medium duty trucks.
 
I would guess there are many versions of the 8.3L six cylinder engine. I have two of them. One is turbo'd to about 140HP. One is turbo'd and intercooled to about 200HP. If I assumed the blocks were identical I would get into trouble. Little things like being drilled for piston bottom cooling, etc. can be easily missed.
 
From the looks of that engine in the photo, I would have to say it went through a vehicle fire. But the fact that it's packaged up for shipping, I sure hope whom ever is getting it knows the history of the engine.
 
Just peeling paint. Them engines are good for a long long time.

Similar outwardly to a B series, except that "hump" in the block below the filters, to make room for a longer crank. Overall length is even the same. Think it's called the C series, only made a 6 cylinder, the B series had the 4 and 6.

Have a friend who sells used equipment and he says it's easier to sell a 10,000 hour Magnum (which use the 8.3) than a 2,500 hour JD.
