Need to remove several (50+) small trees (3/4" - 2") range. Anyone have any good ideas for doing this? Backhoe to dig them out? Small dozer? Skid loader with tree puller attachment? Thanks.

812 Farmer Bought the heavy steel blade from Northern Tool,use it to dig out trees and shrubs for transplanting. use it on the tractor , Bobcat, dozer. will use it again in the spring to dig trench for power line to tractor shed. Second picture of root cutter we made to fit Bobcat, works great also.Surface roots easily cut. Hope this helps LOU.

i used my case 530 with front end loader to pull out
box elder 2 to 6" just wraped chain around base of tree
and hook to draw bar as short as u can .pulled them
out root and all. but for the bigger ones or where some
where grown toghter.i had to dig down with bucket.also
used bucket about 1 to 2/3 height of tree and pushed
them till they broke or pushed somwhat over. then
used chain to pull out

812 Farmer, I can't say what presure works best, I can only tell you what we use with our equipment. Our Bobcat 722 has a 1700# tip cap, a 1200# lift cap. The Oc 46 has around a 2000# cap lift.
The 706 I can't say what either the lift or tip cap is on it,never took the time to find out.
We found out with both Bobcat and dozer on bigger trees, if you go around it with the digger to loosen the soil and cut a root ball type base to the tree, it helps for transplanting of them. For getting rid of small stumps and trees, just break the soil out in front of the stump/tree and go to the back of the stump/tree sink the digger usually pops right out.Those trees were not for transplanting,just removal. We've done some Oak-alot of Popple and others up to 8-10 inch at the base.
Like you could see, for us it is handy for ditch,trench digging, or in warmer climates, water line burial.Hope this helps.

Consider finding a "grubber". It grabs the trunk of whatever and if you hook it to the lip of your loader bucket it'll lift out the whole plant. This works really quickly if you have someone on the ground moving it from tree to tree while you move the tractor.
Another way to grub is to set up a triangle of angle iron with a skidding chain draped over a notch in the top. One end goes to the grubber and the other to whatever you're pulling with. Properly rigged it can leverage the pull forces and you don't need to get near so can be done in tight surroundings.
